The Battle at Arnhem, also known as the Battle for Arnhem, was part of a larger Allied operation called Operation Market-Garden. It was led by the British in September 1944. The whole operation was intended to seize a number of bridges in the Netherlands in a bold single stroke that optimised surprise, first with airborne troops and quickly followed by ground forces to take over the fight on site.

Then the focus could be turned to the east on the ultimate strategic goal of the Second World War: Berlin. The war would be over before Christmas; but things did not work out like this. The expected “walk in the park“, ended in a “witches cauldron“. Why?

The German perspective on “The Battle near Arnhem” offers a number of notions that better explain this British defeat. This is why the German perspective is explicitly incorporated in all tours. The British strategic, operational and tactical estimation errors that formed the basis of this operation will become all too clear.
